Based on a prototype exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art’s “Organic Design in Home Furnishings” competition in 1940, models 670 & 671 was the Eames’s most constructionally complex chair and their first design for the luxury end of the market. Designed especially for their friend, director Billy Wilder, it made a famous TV appearance on the Arlene Francis Show in the USA that same year, which catapulted the design to national and then worldwide attention. The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are part of the permanent collection on display at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
